Nursing Education & Absence from school

Who is covered?

Pupils who have an extensive absence from teaching due to illness must be offered sick education. This applies to both primary school pupils and pupils at independent primary schools.

The rules on medical education apply to all forms of illness and the like. Pupils who have prolonged absences due to psychological unhappiness and, for example, suffer from school refusal, are thus also covered by the rules. The same applies to students who stay in a Christmas home.

Absence due to illness, functional impairment or the like occurs when a student is unable to attend class for reasons of the student's health and welfare.

The term 'disability or similar' includes both specific diagnoses or impairment such as autism, ADHD, psychological/social challenges such as eating disorders, anxiety and self-harm.
